Art & STEM Camp Counsellor (Seasonal - Summer)

The Granite Club is seeking an Art & STEM Camp Counsellor responsible for assisting the Art & STEM Fusion leader in leading engaging, hands-on activities that inspire creativity and critical thinking in campers. This role combines artistic expression with STEM-based learning, encouraging campers to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through interactive projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in art, STEM education, or youth programming, and a passion for fostering curiosity and innovation. They will ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment while guiding campers through structured lessons, experiments, and creative projects that make learning fun and impactful.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and leading interactive daily activities that combine STEM principles with artistic creativity (e.g., robotics, design, 3D art, coding, animation, physics in art).
  • Facilitate hands-on projects using materials and technologies such as LEGO robotics, circuit building, digital art software, and sculpture.
  • Experience with coding platforms like Scratch or Tinkercad.
  • Familiarity with makerspace tools such as 3D printers or circuit kits.
  • Knowledge of digital art software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Procreate).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be available for all nine weeks of summer camp and arrive on time for each shift, with materials prepared 15 minutes before camp starts.
  • Oversee sign-in and sign-out procedures to ensure safety and organization.
  • Maintain professionalism, motivation, and energy throughout the day, modeling sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness.
  • Learn and apply best practices for teaching camp activities, including working with campers with special needs and using inclusive methods.
  • Assist with camper supervision, safety, attendance, and incident reporting.
  • Participate in staff meetings and mandatory training sessions; collaborate with fellow counsellors to plan and coordinate camp events and weekly programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid CPR & Emergency First Aid certification.
  • Experience planning and facilitating Art & STEM programs.
  • Experience working with children or youth in camp, school, or recreational settings.
  • Ability to lead and participate in physical activities and games.
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (asset).
  • Availability for the full 9-week camp program and holidays.
