The Role

The Manager & Curator, Global Fine Art Program assists with all aspects and activities of the Scotiabank corporate art collection within the Bank's operational footprint. Ensuring the Global Fine Art Program's business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

With direction from the Senior Curator, the Manager & Curator will oversee art collection management and inventory control; recommend and implement improvements to systems and procedures; support acquisition and deaccession activities and planning; manage artwork installations and rotation; coordinate artwork loans, and touring exhibition activities.

Responsibilities

1. Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
2. Ensure the preservation and safekeeping of the corporate collection through the management of an online database and archive.
3. Support the Senior Curator to develop and execute a curatorial plan for the collection by identifying artists and artwork for acquisition as well as a de-accession strategy for works no longer suitable for the collection.
4. Support the Senior Curator to execute projects in collaboration with Corporate Real Estate, executing the installation of artwork in corporate and client facing Wealth, GBM, and Commercial Banking offices.
5. Oversee departmental activities including provenance research and market valuation; ensure collection management activities are efficiently executed following appropriate protocols including, but not limited to: object movement, shipping, logistics, cataloguing, inventory, database management, conservation, security, loans and storage.
6. Amplify the visibility of Scotiabank's art collection through outreach (facilitating both internal and external tour groups, facilitating the lending of artwork to public institutions) and build relationships both internally and externally in the art community.
7. Represent Scotiabank within local art communities, including external events and as a spokesperson when appropriate.
8. Execute day-to-day operational tasks.
9. Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
10. Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions

1. Assist in the management of the global Fine Art collection (approximately 6,000 catalogued pieces).
2. Oversee the maintenance of the art collection management systems.
3. Plan and manage artwork installations and rotation.

Qualifications

We'd love to work with you if you have:

1. Advanced fine art knowledge.
2. Demonstrated experience in data entry and database management.
3. Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, including Art History, Fine Art, Museum or Collections Management.
4. High attention to detail.
5. Knowledge of and experience with care, storage, and display of art collections.
6. Ability to foster a collaborative working environment.
7. Experience cultivating business relationships with galleries, auction houses, art-related entities, and cultural partners.
8. Experience working on and overseeing complex projects.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
10. Demonstrated experience communicating to art and non-art audiences.
