ABOUT PLACE DES ARTS
Founded in 1972, Place des Arts (PdA) is a not-for-profit arts education centre with a mission to inspire the artist in everyone. Located in Coquitlam, we offer quality instruction for all ages and skill levels in the visual, literary and performing arts. Our Artisan Shop and galleries support local emerging artists, and our events and performances make Place des Arts a cultural hub, drawing together diverse members of the community to experience the arts.

ABOUT FLYING COLOURS
Place des Arts is seeking Art Camp Education Assistants to supervise and support our campers for our upcoming Flying Colours camp. The Flying Colours camp provides a unique art camp experience for up to ten children aged 7 to 11 with developmental and/or physical disabilities. As the only multidisciplinary arts summer camp of its kind in Coquitlam, Flying Colours offers young individuals an opportunity to explore their creativity through various visual arts activities. Guided by professional artists, educators and education assistants, participants engage in projects that not only allowed for artistic expression but also helped improve fine motor skills, boost self-efficacy and foster social development. This inclusive
approach, reinforced by a thoughtfully balanced student-to-support ratio, ensures that every child can actively participate and thrive in the camp environment. If you’re a dedicated, empathetic and qualified professional, we want to hear from you!
This is a one‐week contract requiring the candidates to be on-site at Place des Arts from August 18-22 (Mon-Fri), 8:30 AM-12:15PM (18.75‐hour work week)

Responsibilities:

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Work cooperatively with staff, teachers and volunteers to ensure all students are supported by assisting students who require help with projects and positive behavioural support in the classroom, during transitions and breaks.
• Provide verbal status reports regarding student support to the Program Manager.
• Reinforce Place des Arts’ “FISH” policy behaviour values:
o Follow Instructions
o Include Everyone
o Show Respect
o Help Each Other;
• Assist with ensuring safe student arrival and departure.
• Reinforce Place des Arts’ health and safety protocols.
• Provide engagement activities during break times throughout the day.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Completion or working toward completion of a Special Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma (or equivalent education and/or work experience).
• Previous experience working with children aged 7-11 with support needs and/or behavioural challenges in a field related to education and/or childcare.
• Approachable, patient, caring, friendly, dependable, committed, responsible and adaptable.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to evaluate a situation and determine what action to take.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities.
• Proficiency in a second language (French, Korean, Farsi, Mandarin or Cantonese) considered is an asset.
