Job Description

ECS is seeking a Biomedical Research Scientist / Engineer with expertise in genetics or neuroscience to serve as a Scientific Engineering Technical Advisor (SETA) to support an ARPA-H Program Manager in our Remote office.

Are you a passionate scientist with experience in genetics or neuroscience and at least 7 years of hands-on experience in academia, industry, and/or government, preferably in an R&D environment? Are you ready to support the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) in their mission to accelerate better health outcomes for everyone by supporting complex and leading-edge research and development (R&D) projects designed to arrive at high-impact solutions to society's most challenging health problems?

In this role, you will collaborate with the ARPA-H Program Manager and team to facilitate bold research initiatives, support the development, funding, and management of new and existing R&D programs aligned with ARPA-H’s mission. More detailed requirements are below.

These SETA Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Assist, support, and advise the Program Manager to advance the development and progress of new and existing programs.
  • Conduct thorough technical and scientific evaluations of the current R&D landscape to identify research gaps and address critical needs aligned with the ARPA-H mission.
  • Monitor and track progress of performers toward established metrics.
  • Digest complex information and develop briefings for technical and non-technical audiences at team and executive levels.
  • Apply strong logical and critical thinking skills to review scientific and technical data.
  • Support current ARPA-H efforts both independently and within a team environment.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as collecting, analyzing, and writing internal programmatic reports and briefings on relevant health-related topics.
  • Some CONUS travel (~10-20%) is expected as needed.

Salary Range : $125,000-$175,000

Required Skills

  • Candidates should have an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree, or equivalent experience, with backgrounds as Physician-Scientist, Physician, Scientist, Bioengineer, or Computational Scientist.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of hands-on experience in at least three of the following or related fields:
  • Category One: Genetics, genetic medicines development, translational medicine, clinical medicine, clinical trials, rare diseases, patient advocacy, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, AI development, iPS cell technology.
  • Category Two: Brain plasticity, brain-computer interfaces, attention, learning, computational models, neuroscience, neurobiology, neurodevelopment, neuroanatomy, psychedelic-assisted therapies, mental health, anxiety, depression, or PTSD.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to create impactful presentations quickly under pressure.
  • Ability to obtain a federal Public Trust clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with basic and applied research preferred.
  • Previous support to executives managing large R&D budgets preferred.
