Job summary

Electro Cables, a Nexans company, is seeking experienced Machine Operators in Trenton, Ontario to set up, operate, and monitor armouring machines in a fast-paced production environment. Wages start at $22.66 per hour with progression up to $29.69 per hour based on training and performance.

Rotating shifts include days, afternoons, and midnights with potential reassignment as needed. Candidates must have reliable transportation due to limited public transit.

Qualifications

Job description

Electro Cables, a Nexans company, is growing and is currently seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our Armouring Department in Trenton, Ontario.

Armouring Machine Operators are responsible for safely setting up, operating, and monitoring industrial equipment used in the production of wire and cable products. This is a fast-paced position that requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and operating requirements at the same time.

Previous machine-operating experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Previous experience with wire and cable manufacturing or armouring equipment is considered an asset.

Work Location & Flexibility

Electro Cables operates two manufacturing facilities in Trenton, Ontario—Sidney Street and Riverside Drive.

While the successful candidate may initially be assigned to the Armouring Department at a specific plant, production line, or shift, employees may be reassigned to different departments, production lines, shifts, or plant locations based on operational requirements and at the discretion of management.

Candidates must have reliable transportation, as public transit in Trenton is limited and may not accommodate all shift schedules.

Compensation

The starting wage for this position is $22.66 per hour.

Wage progression is based on the role and department assigned, with rates ranging up to $29.69 per hour following successful completion of training and probationary requirements.

Placement into a specific machine role and the applicable wage progression will be determined based on operational needs and the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and demonstrated abilities. Not all machine roles reach the maximum rate.

Work Schedule

This position operates on a rotating shift schedule, which may include:

  • Days
  • Afternoons
  • Midnights

Shifts are generally scheduled Monday to Friday; however, flexibility is required based on operational needs.

Previous experience working rotating shifts, afternoons, or midnights is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and monitor armouring machines and related manufacturing equipment
  • Manage multiple tasks and machine requirements in a fast-paced production environment
  • Monitor equipment and operating conditions throughout the production process
  • Perform product and material changeovers safely and efficiently
  • Produce wire and cable products according to manufacturing instructions and specifications
  • Monitor product quality and make adjustments within established operating procedures
  • Identify equipment or quality concerns and assist with basic troubleshooting
  • Perform measurements using tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Complete production documentation and reporting accurately
  • Move, handle, and organize production materials as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Support continuous improvement and production-efficiency initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational requirements
Qualifications
  • Previous machine-operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is required
  • Previous experience operating armouring equipment or working in wire and cable manufacturing is considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with industrial machinery
  • Ability to multitask, remain organized, and respond to changing production requirements
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and accuracy
  • Knowledge of measurement tools, including calipers and micrometers, is an asset
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience working rotating shifts is considered an asset
  • Reliable, dependable, and committed to workplace health and safety
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, with accommodation where required, including:

  • Regularly lifting and handling materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Bending, reaching, pulling, and performing repetitive movements
  • Working safely around moving machinery and industrial equipment
  • Wearing all required personal protective equipment
