Job summary

Global Cellulose Fibers in Grande Prairie is seeking a seasoned leader to head the Wood Processing Department. You will drive safety, optimize production, quality, cost and environmental performance while aligning with the company vision and mill goals.

The role demands proven experience in leading unit operations, scheduling, outage planning, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver year-over-year improvements and maintain high safety standards in a salaried, full-time setting.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Wood Products, Forestry or significant experience operating/maintaining/leading unit operations of similar complexity.
  • Track record of motivating others and working across boundaries to achieve challenging goals.
  • Drive to lead, troubleshoot, solve problems and optimize performance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Planning and Coordinating Operations/Maintenance Outages.
  • Priority Setting, Conflict Management, Building Effective Teams, Problem Solving, Meeting Budgets.
  • Proficiency using computer software (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, SAP).

About The Role
  • Provide leadership and support to the Wood Processing Department.
  • Support and exemplify the vision and organizational values of Global Cellulose Fibers and the Grande Prairie Mill.
  • Participate in safety related activities, be a role model of safe and healthy practices, demonstrate core safety leadership behaviors as expected for team leaders as defined by the GCF Leadership Model. Initiate or participate in safety incident reviews as appropriate.
  • Implement/support safety processes ensuring a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and local regulatory law.
  • Ensure that safety and environment practices as well as operating and maintenance procedures are up-to‑date, followed and improved.
  • Serve as the leader of the department. Accountable for ensuring the department achieves targets.
  • Provide leadership to safely optimize production, quality, cost, and environment on a daily basis.
  • Provide input to plant wide decisions regarding outage planning (water and steam management, waste management, shutdown/startup triggers, etc.). Manage material inventory levels for outages and special causes.
  • Lead and/or influence problem resolution. Provide troubleshooting skills in areas of expertise. Provide leadership to summon resources when the team has exhausted all avenues of resolution.
  • Ensure routine communication is provided to the teams in a timely and quality manner. Celebrate and communicate excellent results.
  • Report production and plant status to teams and other appropriate company resources. Communicate daily, monthly, yearly results to plant as part of daily plan.
  • Participate in performance management process. Provide feedback to teams and individuals, participate in resolving performance issues.
  • Identify and verify staffing and skill requirements for success.
  • Assist teams with data gathering /analyzing for daily operational decisions, leverage assessment and or incident reviews.
  • Responsible for upholding standards.
  • Perform APM functions in the Daily Operations and Manufacturing Work System processes.
  • Ensure PM routes, area centerlines, basic care rounds and CBA’s are adhered to.
  • Administrate individual work schedules and assist with overtime management.
  • Maintains quality standards according to customer specifications.
  • Possesses skills and willingness to intervene for change.
  • Ability to conduct effective meetings.
  • Track capital and major maintenance projects in Unit and forecasts upcoming projects needed within the dept.
  • Identify and support the development as well as implementation of opportunities to improve: safety, cost and reliability in order to meet the Corporation’s expectations of year-over-year improvements.
  • This role is required to participate in weekend duty rotating coverage.
