Job summary

Amazon Calgary fulfillment center seeks an Area Manager II to lead a team of hourly associates, drive department-level improvements, and balance safety, quality, and productivity. You will plan with cross-functional teams, coach staff through challenges, and influence operations across multiple workflows using data analytics.

Ideal candidates bring experience in people management, lean process improvement, and a track record of meeting delivery promises.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of employee and performance management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 2+ years Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience.
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

Job description

Our WW Operations network delivers millions of packages and smiles to Amazon customers every day. We are looking for motivated, customer-focused individuals who want to join our team as an Area Manager. In this role, you will a team of hourly workforce and will be responsible for engaging your team during their shifts to maintain the highest levels of safety, quality, attendance, and performance. You will also play a key role in maintaining our customer expectations to ensure customer orders are delivered at the right time, to the right location.

Key job responsibilities
  • Support, mentor, and motivate your hourly workforce
  • Manage safety, quality, productivity, and customer delivery promises
  • Collaborate with all support teams including Safety, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, Human Resources to develop plans to meet business objectives
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
  • Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts
  • Work in an environment where the noise level varies and can be loud
  • Work in an environment that is subject to variable temperatures and weather (delivery stations include outside loading departments)
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in the state of residence

A day in the life As an Area Manager II at an Amazon fulfillment center, you'll act as a strategic leader overseeing upto 80 associates while driving department level operational improvements. You'll conduct planning sessions with your team, coaching them through operational challenges while developing their leadership capabilities. On a typical day, you'll partner cross-functionally with teams such as Quality, HR, and Safety to implement scalable process improvements that could impact 200+ associates across multiple workflows. You'll diagnose root causes of performance gaps using advanced analytics, facilitate alignment meetings with senior leadership on department-level goals, and make data-driven decisions that balance competing priorities. You would leverage your strategic thinking to review department-wide metrics, and plan initiatives that directly impact millions of customer orders while maintaining high levels of engagement, safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of employee and performance management experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 2+ years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience
  • Experience in the management of large teams (50+ members)
  • Experience with process improvements (Lean Six Sigma and/or Kaizen)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain/Logistics, or a related field
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries: shipping/logistics distribution centers, manufacturing environments, hospitality, healthcare, retail, and customer-facing / customer-service environments
  • Experience using strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
