Canadian Natural Resources Ltd in Calgary is seeking an Area Geologist to join our geoscience team. You will integrate geological interpretations to optimize production in a defined area, collaborate with geologists, geophysicists and engineers, and help identify opportunities across land bases while exploring new technologies.

The role requires a field-proven geologist with 5+ years in petroleum geology, a P.Geo designation (or eligible), and strong communication and leadership skills to thrive

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Geology with 5+ years of petroleum geology experience.
• P.Geo designation with APEGA or eligible to register.
• Strong business acumen and problem-solving, communication, organization, and team leadership skills.
• Knowledge of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin stratigraphy.
• Experience planning and drilling horizontal wells.
• Proficiency with AccuMap, GeoGraphix, Petrel, StarSteer; Tableau and Power BI are a plus.

• Plan and execute large horizontal well drilling programs with multidisciplinary teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Area Geologist, you will be a key player in a dynamic and collaborative team of geoscientists and engineers, focused on optimizing and expanding production within a given area. You will use your proven experience of integrating geologic interpretations to develop current and future land bases, monitor competitor activity for new opportunities, and explore innovative technologies as they arise to unlock value for the company.

The successful candidate will be flexible, adaptable and capable of working in a high pace environment where multitasking different priorities is essential. As an energetic self-starter, you also have exceptional interpersonal/communication skills, a positive can-do attitude, enjoy a challenge and thrive in a team environment.

• Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Work in a team environment to identify opportunities in areas with vast growth potential
• Create high-quality geologic interpretations with other geologists, geophysicists, and petrophysicists

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

• A minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with 5+ years of petroleum geology experience
• P.Geo. designation with APEGA, or eligible to register
• Excellent business aptitude and acumen
• Demonstrated problem solving, communication, organization, and team leadership skills
• Strong understanding of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin stratigraphy and its clastic/carbonate depositional environments
• Experience planning and drilling horizontal wells
• Fluency in software such as AccuMap, GeoGraphix, Petrel, Starsteer, and Microsoft OfficeTableau and Power BI would be an asset
