Qualicum School District is situated on east Vancouver Island, serving approximately 4700 students across eight elementary schools, two secondary schools, an alternate school, and a Distributed Learning program. Assignment

The initial assignment is to Kwalikum Secondary School, where the counsellor will support secondary students and may have duties including developing IEPs, providing social skills training, and collaborating with staff and families.

Position Details
  • Type: 1.00 FTE Temporary
  • Start: As soon as possible until an undetermined end date
Responsibilities
  1. Support students with educational, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
  2. Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  3. Provide social skills training.
  4. Collaborate with Case Managers and staff.
  5. Participate in school and district teams and meetings.
  6. Complete reports and maintain documentation.
  7. Work with parents, community, and outside agencies.
  8. Deliver Graduation Transitions to Grade 12 students.
  9. Use ICT tools to support teaching, learning, and communication.
Qualifications
  1. Valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with BC secondary curriculum.
  2. Master’s degree in counselling.
  3. Experience with diverse student needs and behavioral strategies.
  4. Experience with student scheduling and program management.
  5. Knowledge of college/university transition processes.
