The housekeeper supports the Archbishop of Vancouver by performing tasks such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, creating meal and cleaning plans, and grocery shopping.
Responsibilities
Maintaining the cleanliness of the household:
- Dusts, sweeps, mops, waxes, polishes and vacuums as needed;
- Orders and purchases required household supplies (major purchases must be authorized);
- Ensures laundry is washed, dry-cleaned and ironed as needed;
- Prepares rooms for visiting guests;
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive cleaning schedule to assure spaces are maintained in an orderly manner;
- Incorporates annual or semi-annual tasks into cleaning plans such as spring cleaning, outdoor window washing, and others as needed;
- Reports any appliances that are not working properly, or any other issues in the house to the Facility Manager;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Organizing and Preparing meals:
- Collaborates with the Archbishop to determine meal schedule and food budget;
- Plans weekly menu and prepares healthy (guidelines to be provided) meals for the Archbishop and any expected guests;
- Prepares and portions meals and freezes or refrigerates them for days when the housekeeper is not working;
- Completes weekly or semi-weekly grocery shopping as needed and maintains food storage;
- Arranges the dining room and kitchen area for meals creating a welcoming and hospitable environment for guests;
- Provides set up and clean up for events and may work with external caterers as needed;
- Ensures that the dining room and kitchen are clean, organized, and presentable.
Other tasks and responsibilities such as:
- May be asked to assist with yard work or other property maintenance tasks;
- Performs other work-related duties as requested.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated successful work experience completing a cleaning plan and following instructions while efficiently and accurately maintaining cleaning equipment and supplies;
- Demonstrated successful work experience in meal preparation, including shopping for food and other household supplies;
- Must be able to maintain good relations with the Archbishop and visitors with a cheerful disposition;
- Must be able to maintain boundaries and strict confidentiality;
- Able to exercise sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism at all times;
- Must be self-motivated with a strong ability to work independently;
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures;
- Must have good command of the English language in order to follow directions and be able to communicate effectively with others;
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
Conditions of Employment
- Flexibility is required with regards to hours of work; occasional shift changes may be required;
- FOODSAFE level 1 certification is required;
- Access to a valid BC Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle would be preferred;
- Ability to meet the Archdiocese of Vancouver’s Safe Environment policies;
- Must be compliant with all applicable personnel policies.
- This is a part-time position requiring three (3) days per week or approximately 21 hours per week. The working hours are to be determined by the Archbishop;
- Hourly rate: $25-$31 per hour;
