Job description

AECOM is currently seeking candidates for the position of Archaeology Field Technician III & IV, based out of our offices in Peterborough, Barrie, or Saint Marie.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting Stages 2-4 archaeological fieldwork under the guidance of a field supervisor.
• Identifying and recovering Indigenous and Euro-Canadian artifacts as instructed by the site supervisor.
• Prioritizing health and safety protocols and adhering to all AECOM procedures.
• Willingness to travel extensively across Ontario for extended periods.
• Taking on a junior leadership role during field operations.
• Assisting the Field Supervisor with technical aspects of fieldwork.
• Contributing to the training of new team members.
• Setting an example for teammates and undertaking additional tasks as assigned by field supervisors or management.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork (lift up to 40 lbs and repetitive movement).
• Effective communication of issues and concerns related to site work.
• Timely attendance and preparedness for all weather conditions with appropriate gear.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work site.
• Sensitivity and respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture and people.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in archaeology or anthropology.
• Ability to recognize and collect cultural material in a controlled manner.
• Physical capability and care during excavations.
• Effective teamwork skills.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license.
• Ability to support technical aspects of archaeology and team leadership.
• Knowledge of MCM Standards & Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.

Additional Information:

• Compensation for the 2025 season will be between $27.83/hr and $29.44/hr, under the Collective Agreement with LiUNA.
