Job description

AECOM is seeking numerous Archaeology Field Technician I team members to be based out of our Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, or Barrie office.

Archaeological Field Technicians participate in Stages 2-4 archaeological assessments as described by Ontario's Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. This role involves manual labor, including hand digging of archaeological test units and screening soil for artifacts. Technicians also conduct Stage 2 pedestrian surveys, walking across ploughed fields to find surface artifacts and identify new archaeological sites. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor work, learning, and teamwork.

Please note that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of employees in this role. Hired candidates will be informed of any changes to employment terms due to this collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements :

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork in all weather conditions (lift up to 40 lbs, repetitive shoveling and screening)
  • Reliable transportation to/from assigned office or project meeting point
  • Prepared for all weather conditions with appropriate gear

Preferred Qualifications :

  • High school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to excavate and operate under supervision, following instructions
  • Experience carrying out Stages 2-4 archaeological work under supervision
  • Attention to detail in artifact identification and organization
  • Sensitivity and respect towards Indigenous cultures and collaboration skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license preferred
  • Effective communication skills with Field Supervisor
Additional Information :

Under the collective agreement, the 2025 season wage for Archaeology Field Technician I at AECOM will be $24.48/hr.
