Your Impact
As an Archaeological Field Technician, you will provide technical support on various projects throughout British Columbia. This role involves providing cultural resources support for environmental planning and permitting efforts of privately-owned infrastructure projects. You will work under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff, providing field support while fostering a culture of continuous learning. In addition to field support, you may assist in regulatory applications and the development of technical reports to comply with industry standards. The position will start mid-April, with an anticipated 90% of fieldwork and 10% office work. A successful offer will be a 6 to 12-month contract, with the opportunity to extend the contract or convert to full-time, depending on workload.
What You'll Need
- An undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, or a relevant discipline.
- 1 to 7 years of Cultural Resource Management experience (ideal).
- Knowledge of British Columbia’s heritage assessment regulatory requirements.
- Ability to walk for long periods over unfamiliar terrain, excavate shovel tests and test units, screen soil, and carry field equipment.
- Ability to navigate in the field using GPS, maps, etc.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and for long periods as needed.
- Motivated and able to work safely with minimum supervision.
- A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
- Experience supervising and leading archaeological crews.
- Experience using Field Maps and Survey 123 to record heritage assessment information.
- Deep testing experience (mechanical, auger, and/or hand).
- Experience identifying archaeological features and paleosols in floodplain environments.
- Experience in the Coastal Region of British Columbia.
- Experience collaborating with Indigenous participants and monitors.
- Experience in conducting research, literature reviews, and cartographic reviews.
- Experience conducting archaeological mitigative excavations (Systematic Data Recovery).
- Experience writing sections of compliance reports, completing site forms, or artifact analysis.
- Experience working in a consulting environment and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while being responsive to both internal and external clients.
The base salary range for this position is $66,000.00 to $99,770.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
