As an Archaeological Field Technician, you will provide technical support on various projects throughout British Columbia. Based out of our Burnaby, BC or the Calgary, AB office, this position involves providing cultural resources support for environmental planning and permitting efforts of privately-owned infrastructure projects. We’ll rely on you to work under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff, providing field support, while fostering a culture of continuous learning as you bring fresh ideas to the table. In addition to field support, you may be relied upon to assist in regulatory applications and development of technical reports to comply with industry standards. The position will start mid-April, with an anticipated 90% of fieldwork and 10% office work. A successful offer will be a 6 to 12-month contract, with the opportunity to extend the contract or conversion to full time, depending on workload.

Here's what you'll need :

  • An undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, or a relevant discipline.
  • Ideally you will have 1 to 7 years of Cultural Resource Management experience.
  • Knowledge of British Columbia’s heritage assessment regulatory requirements.
  • Must be capable of walking for long periods of time over unfamiliar terrain, excavating shovel tests and test units, screening soil, and carrying field equipment.
  • Ability to navigate in the field using GPS, maps, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently and for long periods of time, as needed.
  • Must be motivated and able to work safely with minimum supervision.
  • A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.

Ideally, you’ll also have :

  • Experience supervising and leading archaeological crews.
  • Experience using Field Maps and Survey 123 to record heritage assessment information.
  • Deep testing experience (mechanical, auger, and / or hand).
  • Experience with identifying archaeological features and paleosols in floodplain environments.
  • Experience in the Coastal Region of British Columbia.
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous participants and monitors.
  • Experience in conducting research, literature reviews, and cartographic reviews.
  • Experience conducting archaeological mitigative excavations (Systematic Data Recovery).
  • Experience in writing sections of compliance reports, completing site forms, or artifact analysis.
  • Experience working in the consulting environment and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to both internal and external clients.

The base salary range for this position is $66,000.00 to $99,770.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
