Job summary

The Town of Milton is seeking a full-time Arborist to support urban forestry operations, reporting to the Supervisor, Operations - Forestry. This unionized role (IBEW Local 636) offers hybrid work options and a comprehensive benefit package.

You will perform tree maintenance, health assessments, and risk analyses, operate arial lifts and tools, mentor seasonal staff, and respond to public inquiries. Winter plow/salt duties may be required. Salary: hourly, with benefits.

Responsibilities

• Execute day to day activities related to urban forestry operations.
• Direct and coordinate day-to-day activities for summer and seasonal staff; ensure safety and proper equipment use.
• Perform skilled tree maintenance including pruning, rigging, fertilizing, and removal.
• Access tree canopies and work aloft with approved gear and techniques; operate equipment safely.
• Assess tree health and recommend treatments for pests, diseases, and defects.
• Conduct tree risk assessments and respond to hazardous situations, including after-hours emergencies.
• Operate specialized equipment (arials, woodchippers, chain saws, stump grinders) and support tree planting programs.
• Assist in developing urban forestry plans and advise on tree care and by-law requirements.
• Respond to public inquiries and service requests; maintain records; comply with health and safety practices.
