The successful candidate will perform a variety of arboricultural functions on all city-owned trees, ensuring industry standard techniques and processes are adhered to.
• Implement assigned Arboriculture work orders, not limited but including pruning, removal and young tree structural pruning on municipal trees
• Operate specialized equipment including bucket trucks, chippers, chainsaws, skids steers, stump grinder and tree climbing equipment in safe and efficient manner
• When required co-ordinate all work site activities, complete work orders, maintain records and provide work direction and training to other staff
• Ensure assigned vehicles, PPE, equipment and tools are maintained and operated safely
• Required to participate in an on call 24/7 rotation through out the year, including storm management after hours service
• Provide excellent customer service, handle customer concerns and provide information on best Arboricultural practices
• May be requested to respond to emergency situations after normal hours
• Comply with City policies.
• Provide ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• A minimum of 2 years practical experience in the field of Arboriculture
• Diploma in Arboriculture, urban forestry or related discipline
• Experience in Arboriculture practices (International Society of Arboriculture standards) highway traffic act and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Valid Ontario class DZ license, in good standing considered an asset.
• International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or tree climber Certification considered an asset.
• 0-8 ton crane License considered an asset.
• IHSA line clearing Safety Awareness Certification considered an asset.
• Book 7 traffic control training considered an asset.
• Working at heights considered an asset.
• Perform Arboricultural work aloft using both climbing and forestry related equipment
• Demonstrate ability to safely work and oversee staff when required
• Competent tree climbing skills, being aware of current climbing techniques
• Work at great heights, climbing and operating various sizes/weights of equipment
• Maybe required to work around energized apparatus.
• Working in all weather conditions
• Must be physically capable of performing all forestry related tasks
• Must demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, time management skills and the ability to work within a team

Hourly Rate/Salary:$ 60,710.00 - $ 80,950.00
