Job description

Timberscapes Inc. is a growing arborist company that specializes in tree preservation, maintenance, and the removal of hazards, and we like to have fun! If you ever wished you could spend your days monkeying around in the trees or digging in the sandbox, we might be for you. It’s become a bit cliché, but let’s be real, a job only feels like a job if it’s boring... so we do some cool stuff too. Post-work barbecues are mandatory, and monthly breakfast meetings are how we fuel up and ensure we're all on the same page. Enjoying what we do is just as important as getting the job done right! As a top-tier Arborist company, we’re able to complete any size tree job and we're always looking for cool people to join our team. You want in?

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS ROLE

  • Class G Driver’s License with desire to obtain DZ license
  • 5+ years in Arborist role and can handle the big trees with ease
  • 1 Year leadership position on Arborist crew
  • ISA Certification considered a strong asset

You can lead the crew on the hottest days without breaking a sweat. Your past teams have loved and respected you. You genuinely connect with clients and crew members, are good at hyping up the crew when things go well, and you keep them cool and calm when the tide turns against you. You're the leader that the crews are not afraid to ask questions. Moderately skilled in computers, smartphones, and iPads. Clean cut and well spoken.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL: Does the mustard stain on that guy’s shirt bother you? Good, you’re probably hypersensitive to small details, and that’s okay. We need that. A good captain has eagle eyes that see the pruners someone left under the patio table.

PROBLEM SOLVING: When an issue pops up, do you freak out? Or do you think of it like a challenging puzzle? Whether it be a breakdown in equipment, communication, or when the weather takes a turn for the worse; you systematically figure it out and keep everyone on course.

ORGANIZATION: You never forget to complete the checklists that you are responsible for. You understand the importance of a clean truck and you always do up your laces!

WHAT YOU’D DO: You’re leading an Arborist crew, but you’re doing it right. You’re making sure that the daily and weekly checklists are always done. You’re able to organize a productive team and eliminate downtime. In the morning, you might get to work a little bit early to make sure that we have all the supplies and equipment that we need for the day. If you think that something's missing, you figure out how to get it. From up in the tree, you're able to see the whole site and keep everyone on track. You’re like the conductor of an orchestra. Clients feel comfortable and informed when you meet with them. If you notice something needs to be done, you sell the client on it and document everything. You’re responsible for training employees on safety protocols and walking them through their initial orientation. You’re just as skilled at climbing trees as you are at leading the crew, but you’re also eager to learn and grow too.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU:

  • Competitive pay: $28-$36 per hour (depending on level of experience)
  • A leadership role in a high-quality, growing company with the ambition to expand
  • Freedom to offer feedback on a weekly basis to your supervisor and to be heard
  • A flexible work environment (you need to pick up the kids at 4:00 one day? We can work something out)
  • Cash for gear and equipment
  • Do you want to work with your friend? Refer them to work for our company and receive a $100 a month bonus for as long as they stay with us)
  • Company uniforms, you’ll be geared up with the best high vis clothing.
  • An energetic work environment. No one likes working with someone who’s in a bad mood. Right? We take pride in our work while making sure everyone has freedom to joke around. If you’re not happy we will always want to know about it.

THE VALUES you’ll need to be in line with: We have 5 that build our foundation!

SAFETY: The dangers of tree work are plenty; however, through thoughtful planning and mitigation these dangers can be minimized. It is our responsibility to prevent injury to ourselves, our customers, and those we work alongside at all times. We ensure all our employees are trained to handle all the equipment they use and work in a safe manner.

QUALITY: We strive to always complete things to the best quality standard, within the parameters of the project. If we are not able to produce this quality it is our duty to seek guidance in order to improve. Our clients have trusted us with their projects and they shall receive our best. When we leave a job site, we look back at our work with pride. Clients always comment on our quality of work.

LEAN: At Timberscapes we adhere to the saying “smarter not harder”. Team members shall at all times be striving to produce the most efficient work possible through dynamic organizational practices and stellar time management skills.

GRIT: This is a super important value for us because it is the driver of achievement and success. Grit is independent of, and beyond, what talent and intelligence contribute to our day to day at Timberscapes. Being naturally smart and talented are great things, but to truly do well and thrive, we need the ability to push through and persevere through many aspects of our daily tasks. Without grit, our talents may be nothing more than unmet potential.

LEARN: Much like the trees we care for, from the moment we are put here on earth we begin to grow and evolve. A hunger to seek knowledge is something that should be engrained in us all, and this will fuel our future. The costs of education can be high; however, the cost of being uneducated is far greater. Our continuous growth ensures all labour is profitable even if only through the lessons we’ve learned.
