Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited in Nanaimo, British Columbia is seeking a Climbing Arborist. This hands-on role puts you in the canopy most days, performing pruning, cable installations, and vegetation management while engaging with the public.

You should have at least 1 year climbing experience, be working toward Certified Arborist, and hold a valid driver's license. We offer year-round full-time work, a competitive $25-$35 per hour, benefits, RRSP/TFSA, stock purchase after 6 months,

• Must be able to safely ascend tree canopies at various heights.
• Minimum 1 year climbing experience required.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to pursue certification.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver20s license; 5-ton license and Airbrake endorsement are assets.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping preferred.

Responsibilities

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts.
• Assist trimmers and foreperson with job site setup and cleanup.

Position Overview

As a Climbing Arborist with Davey Tree; you will be in the field and up in the canopy most of your day with a hands‑on approach to tree and vegetation management. You will deal directly with the public and will draw on your expert knowledge and experience to ensure the job is done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver's license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered an asset.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.
