Job summary

Capilano Golf and Country Club is seeking an Arborist to manage the forest areas across its 165-acre property, blending hands-on arboriculture with forest management and planning.

The role involves leading a small team, maintaining detailed records, coordinating contractors, and driving the Club’s tree management program under the Course and Grounds leadership. ISA Certification is preferred and ongoing professional development is encouraged.

Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in arboriculture, forestry, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
• ISA Certified Arborist designation is preferred. Candidates actively pursuing, or committed to obtaining, this certification are encouraged to apply.
• Tree-climbing experience is considered an asset but is not required.
• Experience operating equipment such as skid steers, excavators and tractors is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Club’s inventory of approximately 20,000 trees using dedicated tree management software to maintain organized and accurate records.
• Develop an annual hazard tree removal program based on routine inspections, documented assessments, and established priorities.
• Implement and continually enhance the Club’s Tree Management Plan, guiding the long-term preservation, maintenance, replacement, and management of trees across the property.
• Plan, coordinate, and carry out all arboricultural work, including tree removal, pruning, maintenance, and planting.
• Manage external contractors from initial planning through on-site supervision and quality control for work such as large-tree removals, stump grinding, and major capital projects.
• Lead and train a small team of support staff, working closely with the Course and Grounds leadership team to prioritize, schedule, and communicate arboricultural activities.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of inspections, assessments, maintenance, removals, planting, and other arboricultural work.
• Assist with communications to Club members and neighbouring property owners when required.
• Perform all arboricultural work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard while protecting staff, members, property, and golf course assets.
• Inspect, maintain, and safely operate arboricultural equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, climbing equipment, and related tools.
• Pursue ongoing professional development in arboriculture, forestry, and tree management, applying industry best practices to the Club’s program.
• Assist with other golf course maintenance activities as required.

Capilano Golf and Country Club is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Arborist to manage the forest areas across the 165-acre golf course property. This is a unique opportunity to build a long-term career in arboriculture within a golf course environment.

The successful candidate will take an active role in the management of one of the Club’s most important natural assets, its trees. The position offers a balance of hands-on arboricultural work, forest and tree management, planning, record keeping, contractor coordination, and leadership. Working closely with the Course and Grounds leadership team, the Arborist will have the opportunity to take ownership of the Club’s tree management program and help shape its long-term direction.

Compensation & Schedule

• $37.40 / hour
• Full-time, year-round schedule, with a guaranteed 40 hours per week.
• A five-day working week with two scheduled days off.
