Aquatics Supervisor - Full Time

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:

  1. Supervisory experience is an asset
  2. YMCA Swim Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, or Swim for Life Instructor certification
  3. National Lifeguard certification – Pool option
  4. Lifesaving instructor preferred
  5. National Lifeguard Instructor and First Aid Instructor would be an asset
  6. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  7. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  8. Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensure a safe and fun environment for all staff, volunteers and participants
  2. Respond promptly to members' concerns and inform the Aquatic Director of unresolved issues
  3. Demonstrate excellent customer service by being friendly, courteous and helpful to all patrons
  4. Ensure that all staff are ready, on deck and prepared when their shifts start
  5. Ensure programs start and end on time
  6. Deliver leadership courses
  7. Ensure staff certifications are current and employee files are up-to-date
  8. Ensure all staff adhere to the Aquatic Policies and Procedures
  9. Assist the Aquatic Director with staff evaluations
  10. Monitor changes of shifts and ensure adequate coverage
  11. Maintain current inventory of aquatic supplies and recommend purchases
  12. Monitor and report pool statistics
  13. Maintain payroll sheets as scheduled
  14. Support the Aquatic Director as needed
  15. Support the branch in registration, Duty Manager shifts, and ongoing special events
  16. 20-30 hours of on deck hours, lifeguarding and instruction and teaching of classes
  17. Support the branch general manager in ensuring the YMCA has a positive presence in the local community
  18. Participate in the Staff and Volunteer aspect of the Annual Campaign
