Partner Staffing on behalf of our Client, w e are seeking a skilled and motivated Aquatic / Fisheries Biologist with 4 to 7 years of professional experience to support a variety of freshwater projects. Our client is a large engineering firm with offices across Western Canada.This role involves fieldwork, data analysis, regulatory permitting, and report writing in support of water resource, infrastructure, and environmental impact projects.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and lead aquatic and fisheries assessments including fish habitat surveys, population sampling, and water quality monitoring.
  • Conduct fieldwork including backpack electrofishing, minnow trapping, stream habitat assessments, and instream works monitoring.
  • Support environmental permitting under provincial (Water Act, Public Lands Act) and federal (DFO Fisheries Act, SARA) legislan.
  • Analyze and interpret aquatic data, prepare technical reports, and contribute to impact assessments and mitigation plans.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and support project management activities as needed.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in aquatic biology, fisheries science, or environmental consulting.
  • Knowledge of fish species and aquatic ecosystems in Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal and provincial environmental legislation and permitting processes.
  • Proficient in field techniques (e.g., electrofishing, fish identification, water quality sampling).
  • Excellent technical writing and data analysis skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel for fieldwork (including remote locations).
  • Professional designation or eligibility for designation (e.g., P.Biol., R.P.Bio., or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
