Reporting to the Program Senior Director, the Aquatics & Family Programs Director is responsible for the daily operation of the pool, providing leadership for program excellence, ensuring health and safety compliance, and overseeing staff to meet YMCA of Greater Toronto, national, provincial standards, and SAM expectations.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, promote, plan, and implement all aquatics programs offered by the facility.
  • Manage departmental budget, purchase equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Supervise aquatics staff, including recruitment, scheduling, performance management, and volunteer guidance.
  • Conduct audits to ensure staff and department compliance with qualifications, safety, operational procedures, and standards.
  • Provide orientation and training for staff, maintaining effective communication.
  • Ensure safety of members, staff, and property, including safety checks and WHMIS training.
  • Support and teach leadership courses and swim lessons, and act as Pool Operator as per Ontario regulations.
  • Lead children and youth programs, ensuring a safe, active, and fun environment.
  • Model professional behavior, build relationships with staff and members, and represent the YMCA positively.
  • Lead philanthropic initiatives, promoting volunteerism and community engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure quality service.

You bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, or related field preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in lifeguarding, swim lessons, and aquafit classes.
  • Strong leadership skills, staff motivation, and volunteer management experience.
  • Certifications: NLS, First Aid, CPR, AED, and others preferred.
  • WHMIS and Pool Operator’s certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Multilingual abilities are an asset.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with diverse populations and commitment to inclusion and safety.
