The Opportunity
The Aquatics Coordinator is a member of the Aquatics Team of the Saint John Regional Y, reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor. The Aquatics Coordinator will support the Supervisor in contributing to aquatic programming and overall members’ aquatic experience at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick.
The Aquatics Coordinator will also be part of the HMR Support Team ensuring the YMCA Southwestern New Brunswick Member Centers have support at all times it is open. This, along with supporting the Supervisor will require the Coordinator to be available to work at any point of time during the operating hours.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to build a productive and happy team that delivers quality programs and services consistent with YMCA member services.
- Support consistent delivery of services and supervision of all Aquatics programs and services including, not limited to, swimming instruction, aquatic leadership, aqua-fitness classes, recreational sports and special population group programs.
- Maintains on deck coverage, guarding a minimum of 80% of schedule shifts.
- Ensure all YMCA programs and services are offered at appropriate times and quantity to meet member and community interest and needs through obtaining feedback and making recommendations.
- Seek diverse and creative opportunities to conduct volunteer recruitment activities for aquatic programs and other volunteer instructors in the community.
- Support leadership training to volunteers and staff to ensure program quality assurance.
- Support, monitor, evaluate and report on program statistics and registration.
- Support pool member orientation ensuring all components have been completed including volunteer engagement opportunities, philanthropy potential and follow up on satisfaction surveys.
- Role models excellent service through direct delivery.
- Provides efficient, effective and excellent member service through appropriate scheduling and acts as a back-up when necessary.
- Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy in both specific position and Association, and participate in the Annual Campaign and/or fundraising events.
- Maintain front line delivery presence, providing leadership and guidance to staff in daily operational issues.
- Act as a positive role model, effectively guiding youth behavior and actions
Skills And Qualifications
- Post- Secondary education or equal experience
- Excellent oral and written communication
- NLS Certification, Standard First Aid & CPR-C, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and Certified swim instructor is considered and asset. Should you not have these certifications, have the willingness to be trained and certified within the first 6 months of employment
- LSS Advanced Aquatic Instructor/ Examiner certification is considered and asset
- NLS Instructor/ Examiner certification considered and asset
- Flexible working hours, include early mornings, days, evenings and weekends
- Successful candidates is required for own transportation to and from all working locations. Having a reliable vehicle for transportation is a must.
