Job summary

City of Kenora is seeking an Instructor/Lifeguard on a part-time basis to support the Recreation division. You will assist with planning and delivery of aquatic programs, ensuring patron safety and maintaining records, and instructing programs while guiding student staff.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills and availability for shifts from early morning to evening, including weekends.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Current LSS Swim for Life Certificate and maintain in good standing.
• Current L.S.S. Instructor Certificate and maintain in good standing.
• Current NL Pool Certificate and maintain in good standing.
• Current Standard First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with a focus on service delivery.
• Knowledge of the OHSA Act and safe work procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Able to get along with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
• Flexible shifts and split shifts; no more than two blocks per day.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and delivery of aquatic programs.
• Ensure safety and supervision of patrons and complete related records.
• Instruct various aquatic programs and assist with core/lesson plans.
• Complete records, bather loads, checklists, and program statistics.
• Provide leadership to student staff and respond to emergencies.
• Assist with staff in-services, orientation and training.
• Perform light cleaning and other duties as assigned.
