Job summary

Powell Canada Inc. in Edmonton’s Fabrication department seeks an Apprentice Welder to produce precise parts using various welding processes. The role reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor and emphasizes safety, drawing comprehension, and quality workmanship.

The position requires completion of a welding program (3rd year), a high school diploma, and active apprenticeship status. Pre-employment tests and strict safety standards apply; permanent employment is available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Completion of 3rd year in a Welding program.
• Registered Apprenticeship with AIT (or provincial equivalent).
• CSTS 2020 required before start date.
• Pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing will be conducted on hire.
• CWB Certification is considered an asset (FCAW, all position).
• Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
• Safety certifications are an asset for the position.

Responsibilities

• Fit-up Weldment per required drawings and product specs.
• Weld structural steel or sheet metal using hand tools and clamps.
• Meet dimensional specs from drawings and templates.
• Determine weld locations from drawings and tolerances.
• Operate metalworking machines (punch, drill, shape).
• Maintain work area cleanliness and Powell Quality System compliance.
• Perform light maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
• Operate plasma cutters and cut materials as required.
• Participate in Powell Safety Training and meetings.
• Ensure quality by following standard work and addressing risks.
