GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is hiring apprentice welders in Red Deer, Alberta, for a full-time permanent role in a fabrication shop. Monday to Friday with overtime based on demand; home every night with no travel.

You will learn on the job under journeyman supervision, progressing through apprenticeship years toward your Red Seal, while earning $23.00–$35.00 per hour depending on year and experience.

Qualifications

  • Registered Alberta welder apprentice (1st–4th year) or eligible to register
  • Welding school, a pre-employment welding program, or hands-on shop experience
  • Basic bead welding and ability to follow journeyman instructions
  • Residence in Red Deer area with reliable transportation
  • Pass pre-employment alcohol and drug test and meet site safety requirements
  • Physically able to stand, lift, and work in shift conditions

Responsibilities

  • Tack, fit, and weld structural steel and plate under supervision
  • Weld using MIG, SMAW, and FCAW processes on carbon steel
  • Prepare material: measuring, layout, grinding, beveling, and cleaning joints
  • Read shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specs
  • Operate grinders, plasma and oxy-fuel cutting equipment
  • Complete pre-shift checks, hazard assessments, and safety documentation
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and production readiness

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, with overtime available based on shop demand

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking apprentice welders to join our valued client's team in Red Deer, Alberta. This is a full-time permanent position in a fabrication shop, working Monday to Friday with overtime available. Pay is $23.00 to $35.00 per hour depending on your apprenticeship year and experience, and it moves up as you complete each period.

You will work under journeyman supervision on structural and plate fabrication, building real bead time while your hours are tracked and signed off toward your Red Seal. First through fourth year apprentices are welcome to apply. This is steady indoor shop work with no travel and no rotation, so you are home every night.

What You'll Do
  • Tack, fit, and weld structural steel and plate under journeyman supervision
  • Build hands‑on time with FCAW, GMAW (MIG), and SMAW (stick) processes on carbon steel
  • Prepare material: measuring, layout, grinding, bevelling, and cleaning joints for weld out
  • Learn to read shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications
  • Operate grinders, plasma and oxy‑fuel cutting equipment, and assist with overhead crane picks
  • Complete pre‑shift equipment checks, hazard assessments, and safety documentation
  • Keep the work area, tooling, and bays clean, organized, and production ready
What You Bring
  • Registered Alberta welder apprentice (1st through 4th year), or eligible and willing to register
  • Welding school, a pre‑employment welding program, or hands‑on shop experience
  • Basic ability to run a bead and follow direction from a journeyman
  • Current residence in Red Deer or the immediate area, with reliable transportation to the shop
  • Able to pass a pre‑employment alcohol and drug test and meet site safety requirements
  • Physically able to stand, lift, and work in various positions through a full shift
Preferred Qualifications
  • Second year apprenticeship or higher
  • Experience reading shop drawings and blueprints
  • Forklift, overhead crane, or rigging tickets
  • Fall protection, First Aid, or other current safety tickets
Work Environment
  • Indoor fabrication shop, no camp work and no travel rotation
  • Home every night, Monday to Friday schedule
  • Standing, lifting, and working in various positions throughout the shift
  • PPE required at all times, including welding gear, safety boots, and eye protection
