About The Role
ATCO will fully support your training journey, including covering your attendance at essential training sessions at our training center to build your technical and practical skills. You will remain employed and paid during your training periods, ensuring a stable, consistent apprenticeship experience.
Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will transition into a journeyperson role in a location aligned with business needs, ensuring that your skills are put to the best use.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in constructing, operating, inspecting, and maintaining powerlines, street lighting systems, substations, and related equipment.
- Perform tasks at heights (30-200 feet) and in various weather conditions, including climbing poles and tower structures.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as radial boom diggers and bucket trucks, ensuring safety standards are met.
- Inspect tools, live-line equipment, and protective gear for compliance.
- Participate in greenfield construction, including tying/untying conductors and installing electrical components under supervision.
- Continuously develop skills through training programs and mentorship
What We’re looking for:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Registered 2nd year Apprentice Powerline Technician with Alberta Industry and Training (AIT)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with ability to obtain Class 1 with air brake endorsement.
- Physical ability to lift 75 pounds, work in awkward positions, and perform tasks on uneven terrain.
- Proven teamwork, customer service skills, and a commitment to safety and professional growth.
An expectation of the Powerline Technician line position is to sometimes provide after-hours stand-by duties. As such, you will be required to maintain a residence within the established service point boundary for Fort McMurray, AB.
