The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.
This is an Apprenticeship position, working under the direction of a qualified Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter. The purpose of this position is to obtain the combination and work experience required to obtain Journeyman certification. Reporting to the Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator, this position is located in Hay River and is responsible for learning how to perform plumbing and gas fitting work on GNWT assets in the South Slave Region, and identify any problems encountered during preventative maintenance checks.

Typically, the above would be attained by:
Completion of English 10, Math 10 or 13, Pure Math 10 or Applied Math 10, Science Grade 10 OR the equivalent. Incumbent must possess a Class 5 Driver's License. Successful completion of a Trades Entrance exam.
Continued employment as an apprentice is conditional upon the successful completion of the required hours of experience, coursework and exam for each level in the apprenticeship program.
