Job Description: Plumber

Minimum Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Work setting:

• Commercial
• Residential

Tasks:

1. Install domestic, commercial, or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
2. Repair domestic, commercial, or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
3. Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste and drainage systems
4. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors
5. Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings
6. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, soldering, brazing, and welding equipment
7. Schedule personnel, tools, and equipment
8. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
9. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing
10. Estimate costs and materials
11. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shapes and sizes

Supervision: 1 to 2 people
