  • Grade 12 diploma with specialization in drafting and machine shop or equivalent.

Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES:

  1. Performs graduated Apprenticeship duties as assigned by Managers and Toolmakers.
  2. Completes a 4-year, 8,000-hour apprenticeship and receives a Certificate of Qualification.
  3. Learn to machine, fit, assemble, and build precision tooling, special purpose machinery, and mechanical assemblies for robotic work cells and factory automation projects.
  4. Set up and operate various machine tools, such as manual lathes and small mills, applying knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to support the assembly team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Interpret drawings and specifications to determine best practices, using knowledge of tool design and shop mathematics.
  2. Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  3. Prepare parts using hand tools, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other equipment.
  4. Verify dimensions and alignments with measuring instruments.
  5. Machine details, applying tolerances, GD&T principles, and understanding of function and relationships within assemblies.
  6. Use tracking systems to move details as per routing sheets.
  7. Assemble stations using assembly prints and test for function.
  8. Use all tools involved in floor assembly.
  9. Assemble stations onto cells, mount valve banks, complete pneumatics hosing, and verify station alignment.
  10. Report issues regarding fit, function, or design.
  11. Participate in system integration and handle customer parts during debugging and acceptance.
  12. Assist in teardown and shipping.
  13. Travel to customer sites as required.
  14. Participate in site installation and customer acceptance.
  15. Follow apprenticeship training schedule and record all training.
  16. Attend and complete college training.
  17. Acquire tools for graduated tasks.
  18. Maintain high ethical standards and comply with company policies.
  19. Maintain a 5S environment and follow health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  20. Report unsafe conditions, accidents, and equipment defects.
  21. Use protective equipment and attend safety training.
Qualifications

Education:

Grade 12 diploma with specialization in drafting and machine shop or equivalent.

Experience:

Practical knowledge of toolroom equipment, blueprint reading, and interest in Machine Tool Builder and Integrator trade. Candidates not meeting all qualifications are encouraged to apply.
