Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Apprentice to learn inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on the company fleet. On-the-job training will cover safety standards and proper maintenance procedures.

You will assist mechanics with repairs, perform oil changes, tire rotations, and complete required paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times, while maintaining a clean, safe work area per OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles.
• Ability to follow schedules, instructions, manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
• Currently registered as a Level 3 apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario (310T).
• Strong work ethic, integrity, and timeliness.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
• Complete required paperwork, document parts usage, and track repair times.
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections; identify and report deterioration for repair or replacement.
• Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor.
• Inspect tires, perform tire removal and replacements as needed.
• Fuel and wash company vehicles.
• Operate tools and equipment following safety procedures and maintain safe work areas.
• Maintain inventory and report in M5 program.

Job description

The Maintenance Apprentice will receive on-the-job training on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations, minor adjustments, etc.
• Complete required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections; identify, record, and report equipment deterioration for replacement or repair
• Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor
• Tire inspections, removal and replacements
• Fuel and wash Company vehicles
• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures, and follow established techniques to perform Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA Standards
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
• Assist in maintaining inventory and reporting in M5 program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles
• Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of the company fleet
• Currently registered as a Level 3 apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario in the Truck & Coach (310T) trade.
• Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines
• Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor
• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
