AppOps, Senior Specialist

Reporting to the Leader, AppOps, the AppOps Senior Specialist will be a hands-on application SME with advanced expertise in Site Reliability engineering and Application Management.

You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, tuning and supporting Interac’s high performance payment systems. You will diagnose, resolve, and mitigate application problems and ensure optimal performance of our critical payment systems. You will focus on building and driving application automations, proactive observability, detection, and self-healing capabilities. You will respond to and action critical service alerts and mitigate against any service and client impact.

You will actively maintain Production application stability and ensure adherence with Prominent Payment system (PPS) standards for our national payment systems.

You’ll be responsible for:

  1. Driving and prioritizing application stability and service automation / optimization initiatives with business and technical teams ensuring adherence and compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  2. Optimizing application performance and leveraging performance data, monitoring / diagnostic tools to continuously drive service excellence.
  3. Analyzing application trends, proactively identify and act on emerging issues with Agile squads, driving detailed root cause analysis, and deep dive into the code to implement tuning and enhancements.
  4. Developing and implementing scalable solutions to reduce manual intervention, and streamline the process for application deployments/validations and availability (self-healing, auto-scaling, etc.).
  5. Implementing Application changes, configurations, and code promotions through all environments via automation and ensuring performance, reliability, and stability of our systems.
  6. Designing and standardizing Enhanced Application insights including observability and trending (health rules, events, alerts) with a focus on predictive analysis and proactive intervention.
  7. Create and maintain detailed technical and support documentation for our applications and systems.
  8. Consolidate and automate dashboards, events and reports on Application performance metrics/KPIs.
  9. Collaborate with development, service management, operations, and security teams to apply best practices into all aspects of Application Operations (e.g. CI/CD, IaC, security tool integrations).
  10. Maintaining technology currency and vulnerabilities remediation with a keen eye on process improvement and automation capabilities.
  11. Responding to and quickly resolving critical issues, 24/7 rotating on call production support and proactively mitigating risk and impact to production systems.

You bring:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  2. 3+ years of advanced programming experience (Java, Python, Spring Framework, AngularJS, etc.).
  3. Advanced expertise in using version control systems, such as Git, for managing codebases and collaboration.
  4. Good understanding of different types of open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache and data transformation (jaxb2, JSON, XML).
  5. Advanced expertise with scripting e.g. Power Shell, Python, and Ansible.
  6. Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks, ITIL framework and Service Management practices (Event Management/Incident Management/Change Management/Problem Management).
  7. Advanced experience working with deploying and maintaining Dockerized applications.
  8. Advanced experience using tools such as Azure Monitor, AppDynamics, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, ServiceNow, PagerDuty.
  9. Strong experience in Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
  10. Good understanding of software lifecycle including release planning, release processes, software testing, incident, problem and change management.
  11. Well versed in analyzing data, identifying and proactively mitigating risk to production systems.
  12. Strong written and verbal communication skills and can seamlessly communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Strong and energetic team player and are able to engage with all stakeholders in a team environment.
  14. Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

Nice to Have:

  1. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Certification.
  2. Good understanding of database systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL.
  3. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (or similar across AWS, GCP, etc.).
  4. Experience working in Agile squads.
  5. Experience working in the Financial and Payments services.
  6. Experience with 24/7 on call support for critical production systems.
