Key job responsibilities

As a founding Applied Scientist III, you will :

  • Shape the scientific strategy and vision for accessibility innovations across Amazon's ecosystem
  • Define both immediate-term projects and long-term research directions
  • Lead strategic discussions influencing hundreds of internal partner teams across Amazon's business units
  • Represent our team in an exceptional community of principal scientists and engineers
  • Drive the adoption of advanced AI technologies, such as generative and agentic AI applications
  • Guide and mentor the engineering team while having the freedom to pursue innovative research
  • Serve as a key advisor to stakeholders and leadership on accessibility science matters
  • Influence industry standards through published research and thought leadership
  • Design and implement novel solutions for complex, ambiguous accessibility challenges
  • Architect and develop production-ready accessibility systems

About the team

The Worldwide Stores Accessibility Team is launching a new AI initiative to revolutionize how we approach accessibility challenges at scale. Our mission is to leverage artificial intelligence to transform Amazon's development culture, making accessibility an integral part of everything we do. We're assembling a team of exceptional scientists and engineers who will develop AI-powered solutions that can scale accessibility innovations across our global organization. By combining advanced AI technologies with accessibility expertise, we aim to create transformative solutions that enhance the digital experience for all users, setting new standards for inclusive technology.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
  • Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
