Job Summary

We are seeking an Application Engineer - Lighting Controls to work on design, programming, and commissioning for Lighting Controls applications, with potential involvement in other scopes depending on workloads. This is an entry-level position with potential to grow into new opportunities and roles for the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Review project quotes, drawings, and determine requirements.
  • Design lighting control systems and create supporting shop drawings, including schematics, panel layouts, control narratives, network/system diagrams, and bill of materials.
  • Coordinate with customers and consultants to clarify project requirements. Prepare and submit RFIs, emails, etc.
  • Determine component compatibility and propose alternatives when needed.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors for materials per project requirements.
  • Program and configure lighting controllers and other components.
Production Support
  • Support the production team once the project is approved and in production, helping resolve conflicts with drawings and materials.
  • Assist in shop testing and configuration of equipment.
  • Perform project close-out tasks, including updating as-built drawings, managing project documentation, QA/QC reports, manuals, and other files.
Field Commissioning
  • Attend sites to commission/test the control system once installed.
  • Provide training demonstrations to end-users and others.
  • Work with team members, contractors, and operators to troubleshoot issues as needed.
Estimating / Sales Support
  • Learn component pricing and assist sales in reviewing estimates for accuracy and component selection.
  • Prepare change-order proposals if needed.
Other Potential Work Scope
  • Create design drawings for prefabricated assemblies for building automation projects.
  • Design control panels, schematics, and drafting for low-voltage controls like building automation, energy management, security, etc.
  • Assist in industrial controls design for pumping stations, including shop drawings and motor controls.
  • Work on standardizing panel design drawings for design libraries.
Qualifications
  • Familiar with electrical construction drawings: site plans, single-line diagrams, schematics, PLC drawings, equipment layouts, BOM, CEC codes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and general trade knowledge.
  • Controls programming experience and skills.
  • Proficient in PDF (Bluebeam), MS Office (Excel, Visio), AutoCAD.
  • Additional skills in programming, databases, graphics, AI, etc.
  • Experience with network architecture and communication protocols.
  • Construction industry experience in mechanical/electrical design, construction, or sales.
  • Manufacturing experience in resource planning and processes.
  • Workplace process improvement training (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Punctual, organized, and able to meet schedules.
  • Ownership of tasks and effective time management skills.
