Position Overview
The Application Engineer, Finance & Tax Systems will provide functional and technical expertise to support the design and development of D365 FnO, and other integrated systems. The Functional Engineer is responsible for configuration and solution design of application modules specific to different business areas by aligning system processes with business requirements. This individual will collaborate with internal and third-party developers and partners. The engineer will work closely with key stakeholders across the organization to map requests using the capabilities of the D365 F&O system and solution for system gaps. Recommendations made by this position result in changes in methods, processes, system configurations, and operating procedures. Additionally, the engineer will design systems and create functional technical design documents that allow for data sharing across the organization; design which is proven or validated by testing and post implementation reviews.
What You'll Do
- Lead system solution design and configurations for various Finance and D365 F&O system processes within the D365 Finance areas and modules: Legal Entity, Chart of Accounts, General Ledger, Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, Fixed Assets, Cash and Bank Management, Tax, Financial Reporting etc.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of standard Finance process and systems.
- Work with supply chain and retail teams to support the enterprise level process solution designs, configure and own the financial components in supply chain and retail and commerce modules and systems.
- Work with technical teams to integrate D365 FO with other enterprise systems.
- Elicit, analyze, document, and validate functional and technical requirements, inputs, and outputs to support application development, configuration activities and business reporting.
- Review, analyze and define current/future state system processes and develop functional and technical specifications, diagrams, and flowcharts for identified development, system modifications, and implementation tasks.
- Actively engage stakeholders to gain firsthand insight into operations and identify areas for improvements and efficiency gains.
- Document and present technical requirements via system and reporting design specifications and as-built documentation.
- Promote knowledge transfer within the technology team and other business units.
- Understand data mapping and data flow within the supported systems.
- Configure modules and platform workflows in their designated system.
- Design and configure end user reporting.
- Work with operational teams to validate technical processes and system performance.
- Engages with solution architects and engineers to design and configure solutions.
- Establish the accuracy, completeness, and relevance of functional and technical requirements to create viable specifications and acceptance criteria for solutions.
- Develop test cases and test scripts and support the QA team in planning and executing the testing.
- Create comprehensive documentation, including functional and technical specifications, solution designs, test plans, and user manuals. Develop content, as required, for training modules, deliver training, and provide and guidance to system users and department staff.
- Facilitate system implementation and data migration tasks in support of projects.
Let's Talk About You
- 3-5+ years of experience as a technology expert, implementing Finance and Tax solution on a global scale
- Strong knowledge of D365 ERP and ISV tax solutions such as Avalara and Vertex
- Experience working with agile/scrum methodologies
- Minimum of 2 full system implementations in a full OMNI model or point of sale application
- 5+ years experience in D365 Finance and certification is required
- Certification such as CBAP, PMI-BAP, or accompanying certification MSFT, Azure, and Cloud services are also an asset.
- Financial designation or certification is preferred
- Advanced understanding of ERP systems and how they support the business and operations.
- Advanced understanding of Tax configurations across both EMEA and NA, including but not limited to, CAN, USA, EU, UK.
- Superior technology / platform architecture knowledge pertaining to Finance integrations.
- Cloud, networks, server, IT security, and programming
- Specialist in at least one programming language (e.g., Python or Java)
- Ability to manage change and assist people with adapting to change.
