The Opportunity
The role will be responsible for configuring material handling equipment and producing approval and fabrication drawings through interaction with Sales, the Customer, and Designers.
Responsibilities
- Work independently within established design procedures, equipment portfolios, and templates to develop project-specific equipment designs or configurations meeting customer requirements.
- Work with the quoting team to aid in ensuring we are quoting the appropriate equipment to the appropriate application.
- Read customer specifications, maintain a customer focus, and verify the integrity of what was quoted, entered on the order, and client expectations.
- Verify that what was quoted, entered on the order, and client expectations are technically sound before beginning.
- Create and update engineering calculation tools (and get peer review completed).
- Communicate details for the creation of 3D models and drawings by Application Designer.
- Review drawings created by Application Designer to ensure they match customer expectations or application requirements.
- Responsible for having drawings peer-reviewed prior to sending to sales or the client.
- Responsible for updating and confirming the accuracy of ERP information.
- Track changes in equipment designs throughout the approval process and assist with cost impact to support the change order process.
- Responsible for application-related document control, i.e., material handling spreadsheet updates, approval drawing revisions, etc.
- Resolve any questions that arise with the client, sales, or shop.
- Keep all pertinent parties advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
- Self-assign projects based on resource availability.
- Provide warranty support related to application issues to Service Manager (technical advice).
- Travel to jobsites or AGI manufacturing centers when necessary.
- Spend time learning, with the goal to fully understand all calculations in designs, and why all choices are made.
- Assist engineering leadership in development and implementation of department processes and procedures.
- Provide training to fellow engineering staff.
- Develop application-related documents and tools.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University.
- Registered P.Eng. or eligible for Pre-Registration status (EIT).
- Experience using SolidWorks and reading drawings is essential.
- Industrial material handling experience preferred (3+ years).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work in a complex environment often driven by project deadlines.
- Mechanical aptitude and a desire to work in a fabricated equipment environment, with a propensity for machine design.
- Ability to think analytically and make accurate and timely decisions.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to own personal development and gain an understanding of the equipment that we manufacture, how it is produced, and why designs are made the way they are.
