Job Title: Database Developer

Location: Montreal (Day 1 onboarding onsite / in-office presence 3x week)

About the Role

The Counterparty Data & Regulatory Tech (CDRT) practice area manages systems supporting client and account onboarding, as well as the distribution of reference data across the firm. The CDRT Data Governance and Control Squad seeks a talented professional to automate the collection and cataloging of Metadata and Lineage of data across the Firmwide Data Catalog. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data architecture, data flow, governance practices, and metadata cataloging.

In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive data lineage solution to ensure data visibility and traceability throughout its lifecycle across various systems. You will collaborate with global technical and business teams to document, optimize, and audit data flow and transformation processes, contributing to improved data quality, regulatory compliance, and decision-making.

Major Roles & Responsibilities
  1. Analyze business processes to understand current setups, navigating through multiple systems and coordinating with stakeholders.
  2. Build and implement data lineage frameworks tracking data across systems, databases, and pipelines.
  3. Define and map end-to-end data flow, identifying sources, transformations, and dependencies.
  4. Catalog metadata from sources like MongoDB, Snowflake, and relational databases (SQL Server, DB2).
  5. Collaborate with data governance teams to integrate lineage metadata with Collibra for compliance.
  6. Develop processes to monitor data quality and ensure accurate lineage tracking.
  7. Design automation tools/scripts for capturing and updating data lineage and catalog information.
  8. Create documentation for data lineage accessible to both business and technical teams.
  9. Identify and resolve data inconsistencies or transformation errors.
  10. Document technical requirements, specifications, and solutions.
Required Skills
  • 3+ years of development experience.
  • Experience in data engineering, governance, or related fields, focusing on data lineage and metadata cataloging.
  • Expertise in data modeling, SQL, stored procedures/triggers.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with ETL pipelines, data transformation, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., Sybase, DB2, SQL Server).
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or other scripting languages for automation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
Good to Have
  • Experience with Collibra.
  • Knowledge of metadata management practices, especially with complex sources like MongoDB, Snowflake.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience working in Agile teams.
  • Reference Data experience.
