Job Summary
Within the Faculty of Medicine, the Medical Information Technology (MedIT) unit provides technology and information support services to the medical and health education programs at Dalhousie. Reporting to the IT Architect, the Application Developer will be a full stack application developer, undertaking assignments to design and implement software solutions that meet the functional and technical requirements for the Faculty as a member of the MedIT Application Development Team ( ADT ).
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with team members and clients to develop solutions for a variety of needs related to the administration, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of medical education and research at all campus locations (Halifax, Saint John, and Cape Breton), as well as clinical teaching sites located throughout the Maritimes.
- Design, develop, and deploy custom solutions using a variety of development platforms, including Adobe ColdFusion, SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI), and others as appropriate.
- Ensuring quality assurance standards are met, and developed software has been through all required phases prior to launch, including functional and user testing and peer review.
- Communicate system changes to affected users, answer questions and provide user walkthroughs and appropriate system documentation.
- Provide guidance for IT development practice and propose appropriate technical solutions for identified customer needs, negotiating mutually acceptable priorities, specifications, project deadlines and resources with customers and other members of the ADT .
- Research, on a technical basis, the best methods for accommodating current business when implementing/developing new systems. Investigate solutions collectively in areas of overlapping functions with other team members.
Note
The successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely (with occasional presence in-person on-campus), or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field plus at least three to five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience in programming and implementing small and medium-scale projects, and proven experience as a Power Platform Developer, or similar role.
- Proven problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to constantly update knowledge of technology and professional practices to keep up with rapid changes in the IT industry.
Assets
- Certifications, training, and/or experience with JAVA , JavaScript, jQuery, JVM , MS- SQL , Adobe ColdFusion and development tools, Server technologies, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft SharePoint, and/or Microsoft Power Platform.
