Job description

Working with Senior Data Architects, this role primarily functions as a Data Developer who understands data models and design specifications, star schema, and the data warehouse development lifecycle. The developer translates requirements and design specifications into queries and batch jobs that populate a structured data warehouse. Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing existing data marts
• Performing detailed data profiling
• Analyzing and creating mapping specifications
• Developing and testing ETL processes
• Developing test queries for Dimensions and Facts
• Testing Dimensions and Facts for quality assurance
• Developing objects such as views, tables, stored procedures for data examination
• Staging required data
• Addressing defects in dimension and fact tables
• Communicating analysis results with data architects, developers, and business experts
• Providing feedback and lessons learned at project close out

Additionally, the role involves delivering application programming and analysis tasks, supporting maintenance and enhancements, and ensuring solutions meet business needs. Responsibilities include:

• Liaising with business units to meet strategic requirements
• Writing high-quality code and passing code reviews
• Applying configurations in development environments
• Implementing full product deployments and supporting release planning
• Analyzing and highlighting technical impacts of design decisions
• Delivering technical design and database structure for complex applications
• Maintaining technical documentation

The ideal candidate will have experience and technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, creating user training materials, technical documentation, and platform support resources. They should have experience working as an Application Developer within an enterprise IT environment comparable in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta, and in a data warehouse or business intelligence environment. Knowledge of ETL processes and tools, with hands-on experience designing and implementing data pipelines for transforming and loading data into data warehouses, is essential.
