Job summary

Highspring in Montreal is seeking an experienced Application Architect to lead enterprise modernization and engineering transformation initiatives. The role combines hands-on development with architectural leadership across Java/Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, and cloud-native designs.

You will drive target-state architectures, modernization roadmaps, and engineering standards while guiding QA, automation, CI/CD, and DevSecOps across client projects in a hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in architect/lead roles.
• Strong Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs expertise.
• Experience with application modernization including legacy modernization.
• Knowledge of Quality Engineering, test automation and modern testing frameworks.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and DevSecOps.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containers.
• Client-facing, professional services/ technology consulting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead assessment and modernization of legacy applications.
• Design modern solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, cloud-native and event-driven architectures.
• Define target-state architectures, modernization strategies, technical roadmaps, and engineering standards.
• Lead software and Quality Engineering transformations, including migration to modern testing frameworks and increased test automation.
• Drive shift-left testing and integrate automated unit, API, integration, UI, and regression testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead and support DevSecOps initiatives, embedding automated security controls into the SDLC.
• Improve CI/CD, developer experience, application testability, reliability, security, and deployment velocity.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture, code reviews, PoCs, framework development, and technical problem-solving.
• Facilitate technical workshops and present recommendations to client engineering and technology leadership.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application Architect with a strong software engineering background to lead enterprise application modernization and engineering transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong Java / Spring Boot architecture and development expertise with experience across application modernization, Quality Engineering, automation, CI/CD, and DevSecOps.

This is a client-facing and hands-on role requiring the ability to assess existing environments, define target-state architectures and roadmaps, and provide technical leadership through implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the assessment and modernization of legacy applications and architectures.
• Design modern solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, cloud-native and event-driven architectures.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with experience as an Application Architect, Technical Lead, or similar role.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, and modern application architecture.
• Demonstrated experience with application modernization, including legacy application and framework modernization.
• Strong understanding of Quality Engineering, test automation, and modern testing frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and DevSecOps, including automated quality and security gates.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, as well as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering, application security, and secure SDLC practices.
• Strong communication skills and ability to operate in client-facing environments.
• Professional services / technology consulting experience strongly preferred.

Ideal Profile

A hands-on architect who can move comfortably between application architecture, software engineering, modernization, Quality Engineering, and DevSecOps - capable of defining the strategy while also providing the technical leadership required to execute it
