Manage the Performance of a Critical System
As a Senior Analyst on our POSSE Application Support team, you'll be at the heart of ensuring the reliable operation and performance of the POSSE enterprise application system’s Oracle databases with a strong focus on Oracle Database Administration. You'll leverage your expertise in database administration and application support to ensure optimal system performance, conduct proactive monitoring, and address complex technical challenges. What will you do?
- POSSE Oracle Database Operational Support - You will be required to assist POSSE Developers with troubleshooting system performance issues and with optimizing PL/SQL code, with planning and implementing POSSE upgrades, patches, setting up non-production environments, writing Linux ksh (Korn shell) scripts, accounts administration, daily administrative tasks, and required maintenance
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning - Using tools such as TOAD, you will be responsible for tuning SQL queries, proactive analysis, trending, monitoring and detection of system performance deficiencies in order to remedy and/or implement preventative measures
- Problem Management - Identify and lead efforts to resolve business and technical operational issues to ensure that they are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures
- Production Migration - Support development code migration changes and implement database changes, configurations, and optimizations to the POSSE production environment
- Systems Testing - Participate in system testing to validate database changes and ensure system stability
- Systems Audit - Conduct POSSE Developer PL/SQL code reviews, data audits and establish coding, application and database development best practices and protocols
- Systems Documentation - Define and extend the POSSE support library documentation of system architectural designs, definitions, guidelines, best practices, disaster recovery and operational support procedures
- Mentoring - Provide technical and business guidance as well as knowledge transfer to team and support staff
Qualifications- Degree in a Computer Science from C.I.P.S accredited institution
- Four (4) years relevant experience; OR Post-secondary Diploma in Software Development related fields and five (5) years of relevant experience
Skills required for success:
- Expert experience in Oracle Database Administration, in particular strong PL/SQL skills, performance monitoring and tuning techniques
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong aptitude for assessing complex technical issues
- Excellent time management, involving the coordination, planning, and monitoring of tasks
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills, with a strong dedication to great customer service
- Experience with POSSE is an asset
- Experience with Python is an asset
- Experience with installation, patching, and troubleshooting Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Fusion Middleware is an asset
- Experience supporting a computing environment similar to the City of Edmonton's, encompassing multi business user groups, intricate data application integrations, client/server infrastructures, cloud computing, and ERP applications is an asset
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) certification is an asset
- Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call technical support
Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
