Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian and North American appliance market.
  • Proven negotiation skills with experience managing vendor relationships.
  • E-commerce/online category management experience is an asset.

Overview

Leon’s is seeking an experienced Appliance Buyer to lead assortment planning for our Major Appliance Category. This role is responsible for product selection, purchasing, supplier relationships, merchandising strategies, and business analytics. The Appliance Buyer collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, to deliver best-in-class product assortments, promotions, and customer experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a robust assortment strategy for the appliance portfolio, including product category development, product assortment plan, and global sourcing strategies, and supply chain management.
  • Build strong vendor partnerships and negotiate best-in-class terms, pricing, and market positioning.
  • Conduct ongoing market intelligence and category reviews, staying informed on competitive retail activity and North American market trends.
  • Identify new business opportunities and ensure a continued competitive product assortment.
  • Forecast product demand, manage transitions, clearances, and promotional stock levels.
  • Implement retail store inventory and display strategies to maximize sales by location.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop promotional campaigns, pricing, and product content for media, events, and digital channels.
  • Ensure merchandising standards are upheld across signage, displays, and product presentation.
  • Analyze sales, margins, profitability, and inventory to drive financial performance.
  • Develop and deliver national product knowledge training programs.
  • Develop direct ship and expand assortment strategies for the appliance portfolio
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in retail industry buying, merchandising, or procurement (appliances preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian and North American appliance market
  • Proven negotiation skills with experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including sales and margin analysis.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build effective cross-functional relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of MMHF/POSPLUS systems an asset (internal applicants only).
  • High school diploma required, post-secondary education in Business, Merchandising, or a related field an asset.
  • E-commerce/online category management experience an asset.
  • Ability to travel as required.
