Description
Summary:
To implement Anishnaabemowin within all aspects of Noojmowin Teg Health Centre. Teach and provide support for Anishinaabe language revitalization in a manner that will increase the knowledge within the team and within all program and service delivery.
Job Duties:
Develop and implement language programs
-Assist and support the development of a strategic plan for the revitalization of Anishnaabemowin for the team to include an immersion plan
-Facilitate a language resource network for the organization
-Assist with the Language Symposium
-Facilitate language sessions and/or presentations
-Plan and provide assisted instruction in accordance with lesson plans
-Provide culturally appropriate programs and teachings within the lesson plans
-Facilitate programs to encourage and promote revitalization of Anishnaabemowin
-Provide coaching, guidance and facilitation with language initiatives
-Develop translated resources (video, social media, marketing, communications)
Perform administrative duties in support of the organization’s goals and objectives
-Prepare activity and statistical reports for reporting and evaluation purposes
-Provide consultation services within Noojmowin Teg Health Centre
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position
-Engage in professional development to maintain current skills and knowledge regarding the scope of the position
-Assist in the development and implementation of the organization’s quality improvement initiatives
-Network with other organizations to improve practice and enhance service delivery
Requirements:
Mandatory
-Ontario Secondary School Diploma
-Aboriginal Teacher Certificate or Bachelor of Education Degree or Native Language Teaching Certificate and willingness to advance through professional development
-Fluent in speaking and understanding Anishnaabemowin
-Valid Class G driver’s license
-Current CPR C and First Aid Certification
-Clear Vulnerable Sectors Check
Preferred
-Experience delivering culturally relevant language sessions
-Experience writing reports
-Experience working in a computer database environment
Knowledge
-Working knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabemowin, both oral and written
-Knowledge of First Nation communities of Manitoulin Island
-Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and traditions
Skills
-Skilled in interactive teaching techniques for both individuals and groups
-Skilled in interpersonal relations
-Strong time management skills
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Strong facilitation, collaboration and organizational skills
Ability
-Strong ability to prioritize, plan, organize and schedule
-Ability to work with minimal supervision
Work Conditions:
-Frequent periods of typing while sitting at a computer
-Frequent standing/sitting
-Frequent interruptions within office setting
-Occasional lifting of resource material/display
-Travel is required
