Forestry, Agriculture and Lands - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador seeks an Animal Health Technologist to support veterinarians in farm settings, surgeries, vaccinations, post-mortems and welfare inspections in Newfoundland and Labrador. The role includes maintaining diagnostic equipment and performing lab tests.
The incumbent will conduct field visits, maintain records, compile monthly/annual reports and participate in disease surveillance.
The Animal Health Technologist will assist farm animal veterinarians with surgeries, vaccinations, post-mortems, animal restraint, animal welfare inspections, and maintain veterinary diagnostic equipment including radiography system, ultrasounds, dental and surgical instruments. This position will complete procedures such as dehorning calves under the direction of veterinarians. This position will perform diagnostic laboratory testing such as hematology, blood chemistry and fecal flotation, and prepare samples for submission to external labs for further testing. The incumbent will conduct literature review of new pharmaceutical or biological products at the request of the veterinary staff. The incumbent will conduct field visits independently as directed by veterinarians. They will assist with information sharing as required; maintain records of samples, findings, analysis and diagnosis; compile monthly and annual reports; and perform statistical analysis. The incumbent will maintain regional pharmacy by ordering required products, price drugs, maintain inventory, monitor expiration dates and dispense pharmaceuticals as prescribed by veterinarians; The position will assist with disease surveillance activities.
