Job summary

Charles River is seeking an Animal Health Technician – Toxicology in Laval, Senneville, or Sherbrooke to support essential preclinical research. You will care for laboratory animals, administer injections, collect samples, and rigorously record observations to ensure data integrity and animal welfare.

Candidates may hold a Diploma in Animal Health or related field, or a Bachelor's in Biology/Animal Science, or relevant high-school plus experience.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree related to animal health or life sciences.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology/animal science or related field.
  • Equivalent experience accepted (high school + TA or vet clinic experience).
  • Must be able to understand written English.

Responsibilities

  • Care for and monitor laboratory animals to ensure their health and well-being.
  • Administer test items and medications, including injections and gavage.
  • Collect biological samples such as blood and urine.
  • Record study observations and data (body weight, intake, clinical signs).
  • Handle animals safely and compassionately.
  • Maintain clean, compliant animal housing environments.
  • Contribute to pre-clinical research supporting health advances.

What You'll Do
  • Care for and monitor laboratory animals to ensure their health and well-being.
  • Administer test items and medications, including various injection techniques and gavage.
  • Collect biological samples such as blood and urine.
  • Record study observations and data, including body weight, food consumption, and clinical signs.
  • Handle animals safely and compassionately.
  • Maintain clean and compliant animal housing environments.
  • Contribute to critical pre-clinical research that advances human and animal health.
What We're Looking For
  • A Diploma in Animal Health, Environmental & Wildlife Management, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, or a related discipline.
  • High school diploma, combined with either 2 to 3 years of experience as a Technical Assistant in a research center or 4 to 5 years of experience as a Technical Assistant in a veterinary clinic.
  • Strong observation and problem-solving skills
  • A genuine interest in animal welfare and scientific research
  • The ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 20 kg
  • The ability to understand written English

Please note that upon being hired, you will have to undergo an annual tuberculosis test covered by the company.

About Safety Assessment
