Job summary

UBC is seeking an Auxiliary Cage Processing Technician (CUPE 116) to support the Operations | Centre for Disease Modelling | Animal Care Services. The role starts with 6-8 weeks of full-time training, then casual, on-call shifts based on seniority and needs.

Daily cleaning, equipment maintenance, and routine lab tasks are central to the job. Responsibilities include handling potentially hazardous materials with PPE, lifting up to 25 kg, and coordinating with team members to ensure animal housing

Qualifications

  • High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; work well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily cleaning and maintenance for animal housing facilities and equipment.
  • Assist with routine laboratory tasks and basic repairs as needed.
  • Follow safety protocols, read SDS, and adhere to SOPs; use PPE as required.
  • Plan workflow to ensure facilities and equipment are ready for use.
