Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is seeking an Animal Care Attendant (ACA) for a part-time, fixed-term role focused on enriching the lives of animals in our care. You will contribute to a clean, healthy environment while supporting client service and administration.

Qualifications

• Team-oriented mindset and compassion for animals.
• Customer service experience is an asset.
• Clerical training is an asset.
• Valid G drivers license with ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract.
• Ability to lift 18 kg (40 lbs) and manage up to 45 kg (100 lbs).
• Open availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform care and enrichment for animals: feeding, exercising, playing and engagement activities.
• Maintain a healthy environment through housekeeping, disinfection, laundry, and kennel cleaning.
• Support animal health by supervised vaccinations and bathing/grooming duties.
• Maintain client records and notify supervisor of health concerns.
• Assist in transferring animals to vet clinics as required.
• Engage with the public and promote the centre via social media and fundraising initiatives.

Animal Care Attendant (ACA): We are seeking an experienced ACA with a love for spending time enriching the lives of the animals within our care. ACAs understand that ensuring a clean, stimulating, and healthy environment is paramount to quality of life for our furry residents. ACAs develop great relationships with our human friends too by supporting client service and administration for a seamless experience at every turn.

Note: Please note that this is a part-time, fixed-term opportunity with a projected end date of October 1, 2027.

A Typical Day

• Performing care and enrichment for our animals including, feeding, exercising, playing and/or other engagement activities
• Ensuring a healthy environment through general housekeeping, disinfection protocols, laundry duties and kennel cleaning
• Supporting animal physical health by performing supervised vaccinations, seeking RVT advice and general bathing and grooming duties
• Maintaining client records, recording information, and notifying a supervisor of any potential health concerns
• Participates in the transfer of animals to vet clinic as required
• Immerse self in the culture and goals of the centre and organization by actively promoting the centre via social media channels and participation in a variety of fundraising initiatives
