The Department of Anaesthesia at Niagara Health seeks highly motivated physicians with a passion for providing the highest quality care.

Niagara Health is a regional healthcare provider with multiple sites and a growing network of community-based services. Our team includes more than 4,800 employees, 600 physicians, and 850 volunteers dedicated to delivering exceptional care to every person, every time.

We offer a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services to over 450,000 residents across Niagara, including regional anesthesia for 20 surgical suites, endoscopy, obstetrics, and chronic interventional pain management. The Anesthesia Department:

  • Supports the Anesthesia Care Team model with assistance from AAs and advanced care nursing
  • Provides a comprehensive in-house CME program, research opportunities, and simulation labs for testing and training
  • Encourages teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, nurses, AAs, and RTs
  • Ensures regional standardization with state-of-the-art anesthesia equipment
  • Supports physicians in achieving career goals, including job sharing and cross-department appointments

As a community-based academic center, we prioritize teaching, research, innovation, and partnerships to promote a healthier Niagara.

Planning is underway for an additional ultramodern hospital in South Niagara to improve healthcare accessibility and quality for residents of the Southern Region. Niagara Health leverages regional resources to exemplify the best of local service delivery.

Call Requirements:

  • 1st & 2nd call

Academic Affiliations:

In partnership with McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, including the Niagara Regional Campus at Brock University, physicians have opportunities for academic involvement, teaching, and research within a regional hospital setting. We aim to strengthen academic partnerships and encourage faculty appointments.

Tertiary Care Support: Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, approximately 1 hour away.

Qualifications Required:

  • Independent license or eligibility for independent practice with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • FRCP(C) in Anaesthesia
  • Eligibility to work in Canada without restrictions
