Department: Operating Room

Position Status: Full-Time

Number of Positions: 1

*$5000 Sign on incentive to a qualified AA applicant who has completed the CCAA exam and has completed 2 years service in Operating Rooms across multiple services.

HOURS OF WORK:

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Anesthesia Assistants (AA) are health care professionals that are specially trained to provide anesthesia care to stable surgical patients under supervision and immediate availability of an anesthesiologist. The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) will provide technical and clinical assistance to the anesthesiologist. This will include assistance in a block room and with inductions within the OR. For day to day supervision, the AA is directly accountable to the Anesthesiologist assigned to the surgical case. The scope of practice of the AA is defined by their own professional standards and by the scope of the supervising anesthesiologist. This role is an expanded role of the RRT and requires completion of a post graduate anesthesia assistant certification program.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Completion of Registered Nurse Degree from an accredited educational facility, and current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, and completion of a certified Anesthesia Assistant Certificate program required or
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist who is a Graduate of a recognized course in Respiratory Therapy with registered status.
  • Current Certificate from the College of Respiratory Therapy of Ontario and registered with the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care
  • Completed or enrolled in a certified Anesthesia Assistant Certificate program.
  • Knowledge of Anesthesiology, basic hemodynamic principles, and Anesthesia equipment to be operated.
  • BLS Certificate required, current ACLS Certification required within one year then every 2 years

WHO YOU ARE:

· 5 years of multi-service operating room experience within the last 5 years is preferred.

· knowledge of related pharmacodynamics and kinetics

· knowledge of policies & procedures including occupational health & safety practices

Technical Skills:

· invasive and noninvasive monitoring

· oxygen therapy and airway management

· anesthesia delivery system management

· preparation of drugs and drug infusions

· collection of perioperative anesthesia data

· management of venous and arterial infusion lines

· moderate level of computer skills required
