Job summary

Manulife Financial is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to lead the development of Canada''s top-rated banking Android app. You''ll steer technical direction, mentor peers, and shape mobile experiences at scale.

You will design and implement secure, high-performance features, collaborate with product, design, and backend teams, and drive improvements across the mobile platform while embracing innovative technologies.

Qualifications

• Experience building production Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java.
• Strong knowledge of modern Android development practices including MVVM.
• Experience creating scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
• Knowledge of modern dependency injection approaches and modular application design.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and collaborating with backend engineering teams.
• Understanding of secure authentication and authorization practices, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
• Commitment to software quality through testing, automation, performance optimization, and security best practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
• Experience guiding technical decisions or mentoring other developers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications with secure, reliable customer experiences.
• Own features from concept to delivery; ensure scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to architecture and decisions supporting platform growth.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and stakeholders to deliver customer outcomes.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Use feature flags and customer feedback to safely release and improve mobile experiences.
• Explore emerging technologies to enhance products and development practices.
• Improve reliability, performance, security, monitoring, and deployment automation.
• Contribute to tools, frameworks, and practices for mobile teams.
